One tries to find optimal dimensions of the saw cuts which result into a uniform crack pattern. To do this, a numerical 2D model of a road segment is made with the finite element program Samcef Field. Deformations and stresses in the concrete and reinforcement are compared.

The length between the notches and the width and depth of the saw cut are varied and results are compared. A 3D model is generated based on the 2D model and discussed in detail.

However, in order to understand the actual crack behaviour of CRCP with active crack control at lfpc, it is necessary to conduct site tests on actual CRCP, because simulating CRCP with software has some limitations, as shown by this research.
